Mrs. Sheila Axlund
Hello! My name is Sheila Axlund. I am excited about teaching fourth grade at Diamond Canyon! I was born in southern California. I moved to Washington when I was four years old. I lived in a small community called Amboy until I was in the 6th grade. My family moved to northern California in 1986. I graduated from Willits High School in 1993. I attended Northern Arizona University where I met my husband, Erik, in a history class. I graduated with a dual degree in elementary and special education in the spring of 1998. My husband and I moved to Page, Az., where I taught first grade for ten years. We have four children, ... Isaac, Austin, Noah, and Lauren. While I lived in Page, I earned endorsements in English as a Second Language (PreK-12) and Early Childhood (Birth-Age 8). Due to my husband’s job, we moved to Payson, Az., where I taught first grade for almost 7 years. My family recently moved to the Phoenix area in December 2020. We enjoy camping, boating, watching sports, music and spending time with family and friends. My philosophy of education involves shaping relationships built on trust, inquiry, joy and respect. Children should be appreciated as a whole person, ...critical, creative and curious learners who can gain tools to help them be successful in the school or real-world environment.
